Who should attend?

Anyone who wants to learn or loves the process of creating a new product or service and turning it into a business. Attendees include makers, programmers, marketers, designers, builders, entrepreneurs and writers. Students get a special discount to participate.

Why should I attend?

To become inspired, forge lasting friendships, find co-founders & employees, learn new tools & methodologies, practice new skills and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Participating in Startup Weekend is an intense experience that allows you to grow rapidly and build deep relationships. It’s an experience like none other.

What can I expect?

Attendees meet Friday at 6pm and start getting to know each other. After a dinner and inspiring presentations, you’ll go through six steps to build a new business by Sunday at 5pm:

  1. Propose Your Idea
  2. Build Your Team
  3. Create Your Business Model
  4. Connect with Customers
  5. Build Your Product
  6. Present Your Startup

Steps 3 – 5 usually happen at the same time by different members of your team. You’ll also be supported by a cadre of coaches who will give you feedback on your progress and answer your questions.

How do I sign up?

Register on our Eventbrite sign up page.

If you fit multiple categories, pick your strongest for now. You will not be restricted to this role during the weekend. If you don’t know which to pick, select Non-Technical for now.

Louis Gagnon

Louis is currently Chief Product Officer and Chief Marketing Officer at Audible, Inc.

Previously, he was Chief Product and Marketing Officer at Yodle where he led a team responsible for leveraging data, technology and marketing expertise to bring to market a suite of products and services that enables local businesses to effectively market themselves without having to spend a significant amount of time, energy and money.

Steve Royster

Sr. Venture Officer - NJ EDA

Steve is a Senior Venture Officer in the Technology & Life Sciences Division of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA). At the EDA, Steve is responsible for sourcing and evaluating venture finance transactions, and managing portfolio relationships for the Edison Venture Capital Growth Fund.

Prior to joining the EDA, he was an Investment Associate at Alcatel-Lucent Ventures-Bell Labs where he evaluated and managed strategic equity investments in communications-related startups. Steve also participated as an advisor to several Bell Labs startup teams. Teresa Coaxum

Teri Coaxum is the regional advocate for region II, covering the states of New Jersey and New York, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Coaxum is the chief counsel for advocacy’s direct link to small business owners, state and local government agencies, state legislators, trade associations, and small business organizations throughout the region.

She has a master’s degree in business administration from Metropolitan College of New York. She also has a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Peter Hogan-De Paul

Peter has 5 years of experience with full stack development, specializing in backend, database, and middleware systems. A recent graduate of NJIT, Peter has worked for UPS Information Systems group and with a few startups in developing, testing, and supporting their application architectures.
